Warner Bros' "Barbie" is holding in first place for a third consecutive weekend. The film earned $53 million in its third frame, dropping 43%. The film has reached a domestic total of $459.3 million and another $572.1 million overseas, bringing the movie past the $1 billion mark.
The Megalodon thriller "Meg 2: The Trench" opened in second place with $30 million from 3,503 theaters, a 34% drop from the first film's $45.4 million debut in 2018. The film also raked in $112 million internationally from 76 markets. "Meg 2" received a negative reception from critics, but only a lukewarm reception from moviegoers ("B-" CinemaScore).
The epic biopic "Oppenheimer" dropped from second to third place and earned $28.7 million this week. That's a soft 38.6% decline. The film has grossed a total of $228.5 domestically and $324.3 million overseas, which adds up to $552.9 million worldwide.
Paramount's animated film "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem" opened in fourth place with $28 million from 3,858 theaters. The film made its debut on Wednesday, and the 5-day total now stands at $43.1 million. Overseas it added another $8.5 million. The film received a positive reception from both critics (96% on Rotten Tomatoes) and moviegoers ("A" CinemaScore).
The Top 5 is rounded out by Disney's recent flop "Haunted Mansion", which dropped a steep 63% in its second weekend, grossing only $9 million. This brings its domestic cume to a disappointing $42 million. Overseas it adds another $17.6 million for a worldwide total of $59.6 million against a production budget estimated at $150 million.
