Universal's "Fast X" effortlessly topped the charts over the weekend, but its domestic debut is a bit disappointing, compared to previous installments. It did, however, perform very well overseas.

"Fast X" opened with $67.5 million from 4,046 theaters, a 3% drop from the opening weekend of 2021's "F9", and a massive 54% below the franchise's best opener, 2015's "Furious 7" ($147.1 million). While the domestic debut was something of a let-down, overseas the film scored $251.3 million, of which $78.3 million from China, adding up to a global debut of $318.8 million. The reception has been mixed from both critics (54% on Rotten Tomatoes) and moviegoers ("B+" CinemaScore).
"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" dropped to second place with $31.9 million. That's a 48% decline in its third frame. The film's domestic total is now at $266.5 million, while overseas it raked in $392.6 million, adding up to $659.1 million worldwide.
"The Super Mario Bros. Movie" finished its seventh weekend in third place with $9.8 million, dropping only 22% from the previous frame. The film has now grossed a total of $549.2 million domestically, $698.4 million overseas, and $1.24 billion worldwide.
In its sophomore frame, "Book Club: The Next Chapter" landed in fourth place with $3 million, falling 55% from an already disappointing debut.
The Top 5 is rounded out by the horror film "Evil Dead Rise" with $2.3 million, down 36% from last week. The film has now grossed a total of $64.1 million domestically, $71.5 million overseas, and $135.6 million worldwide.
