It was a close one, but it looks like "Transformers: Rise of the Beasts" is the king of the box-office for this weekend. "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" handled its sophomore frame very well, but in the end was no match for the robot onslaught.

"Transformers: Rise of the Beasts" opened in first place with $60.5 million from 3,678 theaters, an improvement over the opening weekend of its predecessors, 2017's "Transformers: The Last Knight" ($44.6 million) and 2018's "Bumblebee" ($21.6 million). The film also raked in $110 million overseas, which brings the worldwide total to $170.5 million. The new installment in the "Transformers" franchise received mixed reviews from critics (52% on Rotten Tomatoes), but a more positive reception from moviegoers ("A-" CinemaScore).
"Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" finished its second weekend in second place with $55.4 million, a 54% decline from its opening weekend. The sequel has now grossed $225.4 million domestically, already surpassing the first film's $190.1 million theatrical run, while overseas it adds another $164.5 million, bringings its global cume to $390 million, once again surpassing its predecessor's $375.4 million total.
"The Little Mermaid" continues its poor performance by dropping another 45% in its third weekend. Disney's live action remake landed in third place with $22.7 million, which brings its domestic total to $228.8 million. Internationally it adds another $185.4 million, and its worldwide tally has now reached $414.2 million, which could mean the movie might end up losing money for Disney, considering it cost $250 million to produce. It's already lagging behind all of Disney's previous live-action remakes.
"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3", now in its sixth frame, finished in fourth place with $7 million, down 34% from last week. The film's North American total is now at $335.4 million, while overseas it raked in $470.5 million. Its worldwide total now stands at $805.9 million.
The Top 5 is rounded out by the horror film "The Boogeyman" with $6.9 million, a 44% decline from its debut last week. The film has grossed $24.7 million domestically and another 14.9 million overseas.
