"Doctor Who" and "Penny Dreadful" star Billie Piper has signed on to star in the series adaptation of "Coming Undone", the memoir from former Empire magazine editor-in-chief Terri White. The project is currently in development at Netflix.

Published in 2020, the book documents the conflict between her outward success and private trauma that spiraled into a mental health crisis, which resulted in White spending time on a psychiatric ward. The memoir also reveals her childhood growing up in poverty, as well as enduring sexual and physical abuse at the hands of her mother's partners.

White will adapt the book herself. Piper will also serve as an executive producer.

For this project, Piper reunites with Sony-backed Bad Wolf, the company behind "His Dark Materials" and "A Discovery of Witches". She co-created and starred in the Sky drama "I Hate Suzie", which has been renewed for a second season set to air later this year.
