Christina Ricci has signed on to star in Netflix's "Wednesday", the live action series created by Al Gough & Miles Millar ("Smallville"), and directed by Tim Burton. Ricci previously played the titular character in the 1990s films "The Addams Family" and "Addams Family Values". In the streaming series, she will be playing an entirely new character, but details are being kept under wraps.
The eight-episode series is a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams' years as a student at Nevermore Academy. Jenna Ortega ("Scream", "X") will star as Wednesday Addams, who in the new series will be attempting to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore.
The cast also includes Catherine Zeta-Jones as Wednesday's mother Morticia Adams, and Luis Guzman as her father Gomez Addams. Thora Birch was set to star in the series, but was forced to exit for personal reasons before completing filming.
Gough, Millar and Burton will also serve as executive producers. Filming on the MGM-produced series is slated to wrap in Romania at the end of the month.
Ricci is also set to return for Season 2 of Showtime's "Yellowjackets"
