Sydney Sweeney Joins Dakota Johnson in Spider-Man Spinoff MADAME WEB

Sydney Sweeney Joins Dakota Johnson in Spider-Man Spinoff MADAME WEB
"Euphoria" star Sydney Sweeney is set to star opposite Dakota Johnson in Sony's upcoming superhero movie "Madame Web". Directed by S.J. Clarkson ("The Defenders", "Jessica Jones") from a script by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, the film is a Spider-Man spinoff. Kerem Sanga also penned a previous draft.

Madame Web is a clairvoyant mutant who was introduced in "The Amazing Spider-Man" No. 210, in the 1980s. She specializes in predicting the future of Spider-themed superheroes, having mentored not only Peter Parker's alter ego, but also multiple generations of heroes calling themselves Spider-Woman.

She is traditionally depicted as a blind, paralyzed old woman, she is surrounded by a web-like machine necessary to keep her alive. Due to her age and medical condition, Madame Web never actively fought any villains, but it's possible the film will become something more. It is unknown who Sweeney will be playing in the film.

Sweeney is currently filming Tony Tost's directorial debut "National Anthem", which also stars Simon Rex and Halsey.
