Mae Whitman To Star In Hulu's UP HERE Musical Series

Mae Whitman Picture

Mae Whitman ("Good Girls") has signed on to star as the lead of the musical romantic comedy series "Up Here" from Steven Levenson, the writer of "Tick, Tick… Boom!" and "Dear Evan Hansen", Danielle Sanchez-Witzel ("The Carmichael Show"), "Hamilton" director Thomas Kail, and songwriting duo Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, best known for "Frozen" and "WandaVision".

The series follows the extraordinary story of one ordinary couple, Lindsay (Whitman) and Miguel, as they fall in love and discover that the single greatest obstacle to finding happiness together might just be themselves – and the treacherous world of memories, obsessions, fears and fantasies that lives inside their heads.

Whitman's character Lindsay has spent her entire life desperately trying to live up to the good-girl persona the world seems to expect of her. But she is sick and tired of being nice and is about to leave her small life in small-town Vermont behind to move to New York City to find out who she really is, and what she really wants.

Kail will direct, while Levenson, Sanchez-Witzel, Anderson-Lopez and Lopez will write. Original songs will be penned by Anderson-Lopez and Lopez. Production is expected to begin this summer in New York.
