"White Collar" and "Doom Patrol" star Matt Bomer is in talks to join the upcoming Netflix biopic "Maestro". Bradley Cooper directs and stars in the film which chronicles the story of iconic composer Leonard Bernstein. Cooper also co-wrote the script alongside "Spotlight" screenwriter Josh Singer.
Produced by Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg, the film spans over 30 years and follows Bernstein's career, from the composer's debut at the New York Philharmonic at the young age of 25 to him composing the Oscar-nominated score for "On the Waterfront". It also tells the beautifully complex story of the marriage between Bernstein and his wife.
Carey Mulligan will play Bernstein's wife Felicia. According to reports, Bomer's character is a clarinet player with whom Bernstein had a brief relationship. Bernstein never publicly confirmed he was gay. Bernstein left Montealegre for a male radio station manager in 1976 but returned to the marriage the next year to care for his wife after she was diagnosed with lung cancer.
Production is expected to begin in May. No release date has been announced for the film.
