Joaquin Phoenix to Star as Napoleon in Ridley Scott's Epic Historical Drama KITBAG

Joaquin Phoenix to Star as Napoleon in Ridley Scott's Epic Historical Drama KITBAG
Oscar winner Joaquin Phoenix ("Joker") is set to star as Napoleon Bonaparte in the historical drama "Kitbag". The film will be directed by Ridley Scott, who previously worked with Phoenix on "Gladiator". The biopic is in early stages of development, and will be set up at Disney's 20th Century Studios.

The screenplay will be written by David Scarpa, who also wrote Scott's "All the Money in the World". In case you were wondering, the film's title hails from the saying "There is a general’s staff hidden in every soldier’s kitbag".

The film will focus on Napoleon's origins, his rise as emperor and his addictive and volatile relationship with his wife Josephine. Scott also intends to capture Napoleon's famous battles, relentless ambition and astounding strategic mind as an extraordinary military leader and war visionary.

Scott will produce with Kevin Walsh. He also recently completed production on "The Last Duel" starring Matt Damon, Adam Driver, Jodie Comer and Ben Affleck. In March he will begin production on "Gucci", which stars Lady Gaga, Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Adam Driver and Jared Leto.
