Killing Eve" star Sandra Oh will star in the upcoming supernatural horror film "Umma" from Sony Pictures' Sage 6 Films. The studio has recently acquired the worldwide rights from Sam Raimi's Raimi Productions and Starlight Media. Oh will also serve as executive producer.
The film's title is the Korean word for "mother". The plot follows Amanda (Oh) and her daughter, who live a quiet life on an American farm. But when the remains of her estranged mother arrive from Korea, Amanda becomes haunted by the fear of turning into her own mother. The cast also includes Fivel Stewart ("Atypical"), Dermot Mulroney ("Insidious: Chapter 3") and Odeya Rush ("Lady Bird").
Iris K. Shim penned the script and will make her non-documentary directorial debut. Shim previously directed the award-winning 2010 documentary "The House of Suh".
Raimi and Zainab Azizi are producing through Starlight Media, with Starlight CEO Peter Luo serving as executive producer alongside Catchlight Studios' Jeannette Volturno and Marcei Brown, and "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark" helmer André Øvredal.
Sandra Oh will also provide her voice to the animated films "The Tiger's Apprentice" and Netflix's "Over the Moon". She can also be seen in the upcoming fourth season of "Killing Eve", even though filming has been delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
