"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" opened in theaters and dominated the box-office, but did not perform as well as expected in the US, sparking further concern that superhero fatigue is finally here. The romantic comedy "Love Again" starring Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Sam Heughan was also released over the weekend, but couldn't find its audience.

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" was the top movie at the box-office over the weekend with $114 million from 4,450 theaters. That's 20% higher than the first film released in 2014, but a 22% decline compared to the 2017 sequel. The threequel also raked in 168.1 million from overseas markets, adding up to a global total of $282.1 million. China led the international markets with $28.1 million. The film received a positive reception from both critics (81% on Rotten Tomatoes) and moviegoers ("A" CinemaScore).
"The Super Mario Bros. Movie" lost the #1 spot after four consecutive weekends on top. The film finished in second place with $18.6 million. That's a steeper 54% decline. Its domestic total now stands at $518.1 million, ranking 17th as the highest grossing release of all time, while overseas it has grossed $637.1 million so far. That's a worldwide total of $1.15 billion.
The horror film "Evil Dead Rise" finished in third place with $5.7 million, dropping 52.8%. The film has now grossed a total of $54.1 million domestically and another $60.7 million overseas, which adds up to $114.8 million worldwide after three weeks.
In fourth place we find "Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret.", which earned $3.3 million in its sophomore frame, falling 49% from its opening weekend.
The Top 5 is rounded out by "John Wick: Chapter 4" with $2.3 million (-51.5%). The film's domestic tally has reached $180 million, while overseas it raked in $226 million for a global total of $406 million.
