As expected, the Marvel movie "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania" dominated the Presidents Day weekend box-office, and also managed to score a record for the "Ant-Man" series. The neo-noir thriller "Marlowe" starring Liam Neeson was also released in theaters, but failed to impress.

"Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania" opened with $104 million from 4,345 theaters, and is expected to finish the 4-day frame with $118 million. This is a series-best for "Ant-Man", outgrossing "Ant-Man and the Wasp", which opened with $75.8 million in 2018. Overseas, the film added another $121.3 million from 43 markets, bringings its worldwide total to $225.3 million in three days. However, with a budget of around $200 million, the most expensive of the "Ant-Man" movies, it will have to gross around $400 million to break even and turn a profit. The film also ended up being the lowest rated MCU movie ever with a low 47% on Rotten Tomatoes, and even the audience reception was lukewarm ("B" CinemaScore).
"Avatar: The Way of Water" is still holding in second place with $6.1 million, down only 15% from last week. The 4-day gross is estimated at $7.5 million. The film's domestic total is now at $658.4 million, while overseas it adds $1.58 billion, for a worldwide total of $2.2 billion.
Last week's No. 1 movie, "Magic Mike's Last Dance" finished in third place with $5.4 million for the 3-day and 6.9 million for the 4-day. In its second weekend, the film has grossed a total of $18.8 million in North America, and $19.6 million overseas.
"Puss in Boots: The Last Wish" finished in fourth place with $5.2 million, dropping just 5.7% from the previous frame. The film should gross around $6.9 million for the extended holiday weekend. The film has grossed $167.7 million domestically and $255.5 million internationally, which adds up to a total of $423.3 million worldwide.
The Top 5 is rounded out by M. Night Shyamalan's "Knock at the Cabin" with $3.9 million for the 3-day and $4.4 million for the 4-day. The film dropped a soft 28% from last week, and its domestic tally has reached $30.3 million.
Liam Neeson's new film "Marlowe" opened in eighth place with $1.9 million over the weekend, and $2.2 million for the extended frame. The film was released in 2,281 theaters.
