Weekend Box-Office: MAGIC MIKE'S LAST DANCE Conquers Super Bowl Frame

Weekend Box Office Magic Mikes Last Dance

"Magic Mike's Last Dance" topped the charts over a slow Super Bowl weekend, while James Cameron's re-release of "Titanic" followed close behind. Next week, Disney/Marvel will release "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania", which is expected to open somewhere between $85-100 million.

"Magic Mike’s Last Dance" opened with $8.2 million from 1,500 theaters. That's lower than 2012's "Magic Mike" ($39 million) and 2015's "Magic Mike XXL" ($12.8 million). However, the new installment was released on half the number of screens as its predecessors. The film was originally intended for HBO Max, but because of positive test screenings and Discovery taking over Warner Bros, it was decided to give the film a theatrical release. On the negative side, the film cost $49 million to produce. The threequel also added $10.4 million from overseas markets.

"Avatar: The Way of Water" finished in second place with $6.9 million. The film has grossed a total of $646.9 million domestically after nine weeks in theaters, and another $1.57 billion worldwide. That's a global total of $2.21 billion.

The 25th anniversary re-release of "Titanic" finiished in third place with $6.4 million in North America, and another $15.9 million overseas.

The comedy "80 for Brady" fell to fourth place with $6 million, dropping 52.8% from its opening weekend. Its domestic total has reachd $24.9 million.

The Top 5 is rounded out by last week's No. 1 movie, "Knock at the Cabin" which dropped a steep 61% from its debut and grossed $5.5 million. The film's domestic tally is now at $23.4 milion after 10 days, while overseas it has grossed a total of $13.3 million.
