Weekend Box-Office: JURASSIC WORLD DOMINION Takes Down TOP GUN MAVERICK

Weekend Box Office Jurassic World Dominion

The dino adventure flick "Jurassic World Dominion" stormed the box-office this weekend and crushed all competition. "Top Gun: Maverick" was forced to take a step back, but is still doing solid business and held on surprisingly well against the dino onslaught.

Read more about the weekend box-office after the jump.

"Jurassic World: Dominion" opened in first place with $143.3 million from 4,676 theaters. That's 31% behind 2015's "Jurassic World" ($208.8 million), but only 3% behind the first sequel, 2018's "Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom" ($148 million). It also ranks as the 29th opening weekend of all time. The film opened overseas last weekend and has so far grossed a total of $245.8 million ($177 million this weekend). China delivered $52.5 million, the biggest US debut of 2022, so far, but a far cry from the first film's $111 million debut. "Jurassic World: Dominion" was mauled by critics (30% on Rotten Tomatoes), but moviegoers loved the movie ("A-" CinemaScore).

"Top Gun: Maverick" dropped to second place, grossing $50 million this weekend. The film dropped 44.5% from last weekend, but it's honestly a solid result considering the massive debut of "Jurassic World Dominion". The film is about to overtake "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness" domestically after only 16 days, despite opening with 30% less money than Disney's movie. The "Top Gun" sequel has so far grossed a total of $393.3 million domestically and $353.7 million internationally. That's a total of $747 million worldwide in only two weeks.

Disney's "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness" finished in third place with $4.8 million, dropping 46.8%. The film's domestic total has reached $397.8 million, while overseas it has reached $532.4 million. The worldwide total now sits at $930.2 million.

In fourth place we find "The Bob's Burgers Movie" with $2.3 million (-49.6%). The film's domestic total has reached $27 million, and also added another $1.7 million internationally.

The Top 5 is rounded out by the animated film "The Bad Guys" with $2.2 million. The film has grossed a total of $91.5 million domestically and $131.6 million internationally.

It's worth mentioning A24's surprise hit "Everything Everywhere All at Once", which finished this weekend in seventh place, marking its 11th weekend in the Top 10. The film grossed $1.2 million over the weekend (-37% drop), and has grossed $63 million in North America against a $25 million budget. It ranks as A24's top movie, ahead of 2019's "Uncut Gems" ($50 million). It also raked in $20 million from foreign markets.
