Jason Statham will be leading the upcoming action movie "The Beekeeper" from filmmaker David Ayer ("Fury", "Suicide Squad", "End of Watch"). Last year, Miramax acquired the spec script written by Kurt Wimmer ("Salt") in a seven figure deal. The film is expected to launch a franchise, and Miramax will be shopping at the upcoming Cannes market.
The film will be produced by Statham and Wimmer, along with Bill Block for Miramax and Chris Long for Cedar Park Studios.
The fast-paced action-thriller, which is steeped in the mythology of beekeeping, follows a man's personal journey of vengeance which takes on national stakes after he is revealed to be a former operative of a powerful and clandestine organization known as the "Beekeepers".
Statham and Miramax recently worked together on the Guy Ritchie flicks "Wrath of Man" and "Operation Fortune: Ruse De Guerre". The actor is also set to star in the sequels "Meg 2: The Trench", "Fast X" and "The Expendables 4".
