Hayden Panettiere is set to reprise her "Scream 4" role of Kirby Reed in the sixth installment in the franchise. Spyglass Media and Paramount Pictures officially announced the fan-favorite character's return, while also confirming that Jenna Ortega, Melissa Barrera, Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy, from the 2021 "Scream", would also return for the new movie.
The new installment will follow the four survivors as they leave Woodsboro behind and attempt to start a fresh chapter. Obviously, plot details are being kept under wraps, and details regarding Panettiere's character are unavailable at this point.
Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett will also return to direct from a script by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick. Vanderbilt, Paul Neinstein and William Sherak are producing. Original "Scream" writer Kevin Williamson will executive produce alongside Chad Villella, Gary Barber, Peter Oillataguerre, Ron Lynch, Cathy Konrad and Marianne Maddalena.
Filming is scheduled to begin in early summer. The sixth installment will open in theaters on March 31, 2023.
This will be Panettiere's first major acting project since ABC's "Nashville", which aired between 2012 and 2018.
