A24 have announced that they have optioned Paul B. Rainey's 2023 graphic novel "Why Don't You Love Me?", and that Jennifer Lawrence is set to star in and produce the film, which will be penned by Robert Funke ("On Becoming a God in Central Florida"). The search for a director is underway.
The story focuses on a couple struggling through their marriage while feeling like something is not quite right in their reality. The graphic novel has been described as a pitch-black comedy about marriage, alcoholism, depression and mourning lost opportunities, with surprising twists along the way.
Producers on the film will include Lawrence and Justine Ciarrocchi for Excellent Cadaver, Ari Aster, Lars Knudsen, and Emily Hildner for Square Peg, and A24. Rainey will serve as executive producer.
Lawrence is also set to produce and star in "The Wives", a murder mystery inspired by "Real Housewives", which will be co-produced by Apple and A24.
