Weekend Box Office Inside Out 2 Second Frame

Pixar continues its record-breaking domination at the box-office as "Inside Out 2" crushed its sophomore weekend. Overall it was another great weekend at the box-office, up by more than 31% from the same frame in 2023.

"Inside Out 2" finished its second wekend at the box-office in first place with a massive $101.2 million, down just 34.4% from its fantastic debut frame. This brings the film's domestic total to $356.3 million, while overseas it adds $372.5 million for a worldwide total of $728.9 million in just 10 days. The film's $200 million budget is no longer an issue with these numbers.

The animated sequel has already surpassed "Dune: Part II" as the highest grossing movie of 2024, and it looks to become Disney's first $1 billion movie in a long time. It also joined the exclusive club of films to make $100 million in their second weekend, which until now only included 6 other films: "Star Wars: The Force Awakens", "Avengers: Endgame", "Avengers: Infinity War", "Black Panther", "Jurassic World" and "The Avengers". And it looks like it will surpass the first film's $356.9 million domestic and $501.9 million international totals.

"Bad Boys: Ride or Die" is holding in second place with $18.8 million, down 44.1% in its third weekend. The film has now grossed a total of $147 million in North America and $142.2 million overseas. That adds up to $289.2 million worldwide.

The Focus Features/New Regency period biker drama "The Bikeriders" opened with a modest $9.6 million from 2,642 theaters, which wouldn't be much of a problem if the movie didn't cost around $40 million to produce. Overseas it only added another $3.9 million for a global debut of $13.6 million. Still, this is the largest debut for director Jeff Nichols ("Mud", "Midnight Special", "Loving"), and a fairly decent start for an arthouse project. "The Bikeriders" was well-received by critics (81% on Rotten TomatoeS), but moviegoers were mixed on it ("B" CinemaScore).

In fourth place we find "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes" with $3.8 million, a 31.1% decline from the previous frame. After seven weeks in theaters, the film has grossed $164.6 million domestically and $221 million internationally. The global earnings now stand at $385.6 million against a $160 million production budget.

The Top 5 is rounded out by the animated film "The Garfield Movie" with $3.7 million. The film only dropped 20.9% from last week, and the domestic total has now reached $85.3 million after five weeks in theaters. Overseas it adds another $145.5 million for a worldwide cume of $230.8 million.

In other news, Russell Crowe's supernatural horror film "The Exorcism" opened in seventh place with a dismal $2.4 million from 2,240 theaters. The film received a negative reception from both critics (29% on Rotten Tomatoes) and moviegoers ("D" in CinemaScore).

June Squibb's action comedy "Thelma" fared slightly better, opening in eight place with $2.3 million from 1,290 theaters. It also received rave reviews from critics (99% on Rotten Tomatoes).
