SPACEBALLS Sequel In the Works Produced By Mel Brooks And Starring Josh Gad

Spaceballs 1987 Movie Review

A "Spaceballs" sequel is in early development at Amazon MGM Studios. The film will be directed by Josh Greenbaum ("Strays") and produced by Mel Brooks. The screenplay is written by Benji Samit, Dan Hernandez and Josh Gad. Gad is also on board to star. Kevin Salter will executive produce.

Samit and Hernandez are known for working on "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem", "Pokemon Detective Pikachu" and the upcoming "Lego Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy". The project is in early stages, and plot details are being kept under wraps.

The original film's plot spoofed "Star Wars" and revolved around the evil Dark Helmet (Rick Moranis) and President Skroob (Brooks), who attempt to steal the atmosphere of the peaceful planet Druidia, only to be thwarted by the hero Lone Starr (Bill Pullman), his sidekick Barf (John Candy), and the Druish princess Vespa (Daphne Zuniga).
