Nicole Kidman and Jamie Lee Curtis to Star in Kay Scarpetta Series at Amazon

Nicole Kidman Jamie Lee Curtis Kay Scarpetta Movie

Nicole Kidman and Jamie Lee Curtis are set to star in an upcoming Amazon series based on the Kay Scarpetta novels written by Patricia Cornwall. The series will be written by Liz Sarnoff ("Barry", "Lost"), who will also serve as executive producer and showrunner.

Kidman will star as Scarpetta, a brilliant forensic pathologist, inspired by former Virginia Chief Medical Examiner Marcella Farinelli Fierro, who uses forensic technology to solve crimes. Curtis is playing her sister, Dorothy, the mother of Lucy Farinelli who is a recurring character in the book series.

Deals for the show are not yet done, however the show is already getting a two-season order of eight episodes each at Prime Video. The project is a result of Curtis' first-look deal with Blumhouse and her relationship with Cornwell. In 2021, Curtis and Blumhouse Televison secured the rights to the Kay Scarpetta series, which features 26 books. The first novel titled "Postmortem" was published in 1990, while the most recent, "Livid" was printed last year.

Throughout the years there have been multiple attempts to develop a Kay Scarpetta movie, including one at Columbia Pictures three decades ago with Demi Moore in the lead role, and one at Fox 2000 ten years ago with Angelina Jolie as the titular character.

Kidman and Per Saari will executive produce via Blossom Films, while Curtis will executive produce via Comet Pictures. Blumhouse Television's Jason Blum, Chris McCumber and Jeremy Gold also executive produce.
