Robert Downey Jr. and Shane Black Reunite for Parker Series Based on Donald E. Westlake's Books

Robert Downey Jr. and Shane Black Reunite for PARKER Series at Amazon

Marvel alum Robert Downey Jr. and writer/director Shane Black ("Lethal Weapon", "The Nice Guys") are reuniting once again to develop a series of movie and TV projects based on Donald E. Westlake's "Parker" book series for Amazon Studios. Black and Downey Jr. have previously collaborated on the 2005 neo-noir "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang", and the MCU film "Iron Man 3".

Downey Jr. will star as Parker, a professional thief who approaches his job with a straightforward, no-nonsense work ethic. He's a craftsman. He's brutal, brilliant. He's also deadly. He's whatever it takes to get the money and get away clean. The character was first introduced in 1962's "The Hunter" and featured in 23 other titles. "Payback" starring Mel Gibson was based on "The Hunter". Parker appeared in the 2013 film of the same name starring Jason Statham, which was based on "Flashfire". The 1973 thriller "The Outfit" starring Robert Duvall was also based on Westlake's novel of the same name, which featured the character.

The first project will be "Play Dirty", a feature film which will be directed by Black, and co-written by Black, Charles Mondry and Anthony Bagarozzi, with Joel Silver, Susan Downey and Marc Toberoff, Ezra Emanuel attached to produce.

Downey Jr. is also set to star in Christopher Nolan's epic biopic "Oppenheimer", and HBO's upcoming drama series "The Sympathizer".
