Patrick Wilson to Star in Roland Emmerich's Sci-Fi Thriller MOONFALL

Patrick Wilson to Star in Roland Emmerich's Sci-Fi Thriller MOONFALL
Patrick Wilson has joined the apocalyptic sci-fi thriller "Moonfall" from veteran blockbuster helmer Roland Emmerich ("Independence Day", "The Day After Tomorrow"). Lionsgate will distribute in North America. The studio previously released Emmerich's World War II epic "Midway".

The film's plot centers on a mysterious cataclismic event that knocks the moon out of its orbit and sets it on a collision course with Earth. With just weeks to go before impact, a ragtag team is sent on a seemingly impossible mission to land on the lunar surface and save humanity.

The cast also includes Halle Berry, Josh Gad and Charlie Plummer. Wilson will star as a disgraced former NASA astronaut whose last mission, which ended in tragedy, holds a clue about the impending catastrophe. Plummer will play his teenage son. Berry stars as a former colleague of Wilson's character while Gad is an eccentric genius who deduces that the moon has fallen out of its orbit.

The movie is scheduled to start production this fall in Montreal. As with "Midway", Emmerich and Centropolis are independently producing and financing "Moonfall". Lionsgate is looking to release the film in North America sometime in 2021.

Wilson previously starred in Emmerich's "Midway". He can next be seen in "The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It", the new installment in the long-running horror franchise, which opens in theaters on September 11th.
