"Fifty Shades" trilogy star Dakota Johnson is in talks to star in the psychological thriller "Don't Worry, Darling", which will be produced and directed by Olivia Wilde ("Booksmart").
The film is backed by New Line Cinema, who landed the rights after a heated bidding war, and hopes to begin filming as soon as the Coronavirus lockdown restrictions are lifted. Production was initially set to begin late Spring.
The film is set in an isolated, utopian community in the 1950s California desert, and it centers on a housewife (Florence Pugh) who uncovers a disturbing truth about her seemingly perfect life. Nothing else is known about the plot at this point. The cast also includes Shia LaBeouf and Chris Pine. Wilde will have a key supporting role.
A new draft of the screenplay will be penned by BAFTA-nominated "Booksmart" co-writer Katie Silberman based on a spec script by Shane and Carey Van Dyke. Her credits also include the Netflix romantic comedy "Set It Up".
Catherine Hardwicke ("Thirteen", "Lords of Dogtown") is executive producing the film, alongside Shane and Carey Van Dyke.
Johnson can next be seen in the romantic comedy "The High Note", which is scheduled to be released digitally via video on demand on May 29, 2020, by Focus Features.
