Halle Berry to Star in Roland Emmerich's Sci-Fi Movie MOONFALL

Halle Berry to Star in Roland Emmerich's Sci-Fi Movie MOONFALL
Halle Berry is set to star in the upcoming sci-fi disaster movie "Moonfall" from veteran blockbuster helmer Roland Emmerich ("Independence Day", "Midway"). The film was acquired by Lionsgate last year. Emmerich, Harald Kloser, and Spenser Cohen co-wrote the script.

The film centers on a mysterious force that knocks the Moon from its orbit around Earth and sends it hurtling on a collision course with life as we know it. With mere weeks before impact, and against all odds, a ragtag team launches an impossible last-ditch mission into space, leaving behind everyone they love and risking everything to land on the lunar surface and save our planet from annihilation.

Berry will play a NASA astronaut-turned-administrator whose previous space mission holds a clue about an impending catastrophe. The cast also includes Josh Gad who stars as an eccentric genius who deduces that the moon has fallen out of its orbit. Production is scheduled to begin in Montreal this Fall. Lionsgate is eyeing a 2021 release in North America.

Emmerich is independently producing under his Centropolis Entertainment banner with Kloser producing through his company, Street Entertainment. Dennis Wang, James Wang, J.P. Pettinato, Marco Shepherd, Ute Emmerich, Carsten Lorenz and Stuart Ford will serve as executive producers.

Berry recently finished work on her directorial debut, the drama "Bruised", in which she also stars as a female MMA fighter.
