Cate Blanchett in Talks to Play Lilith in BORDERLANDS Movie
Two-time Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett is in talks to star in Lionsgate's "Borderlands" movie based on the popular video game franchise. The film will be directed by Eli Roth ("Hostel", 2018's "Death Wish") from a script penned by Emmy winner Craig Mazin ("Chernobyl"). Blanchett and Roth have previously worked together on "The House with a Clock in Its Walls".

The first "Borderlands" game was released in 2009. Developed by Gearbox Software and published by Take-Two Interactive Software's 2K label, the game is a role-playing first-person shooter set on the planet of Pandora, which has been abandoned by a mega-corporation prior to the game events. The franchise has sold more than 57 million unites worldwide. The most recent installment, "Borderlands 3" was released in September.

If the deal goes through, Blanchett will play Lilith, one of the series' main protagonists who is one of only six women in the galaxy that belong to the powerful "Siren" class, wielding incredible, superhuman powers.

The film will be produced by Avi Arad, Ari Arad, and Erik Feig, while Gearbox Software founder Randy Pitchford and Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick will executive produce.

Cate Blanchett can currently be seen in the FX miniseries "Mrs. America". She was recently working on Guillermo del Toro's thriller "Nightmare Alley" alongside Bradlet Cooper, until production was shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
