Russell Crowe to Star as Mobster in Thriller AMERICAN SON

Russell Crowe to Star as Mobster in Thriller AMERICAN SON
Russell Crowe has signed on to star in the crime thriller "American Son" for Paramount, which is based on Jacques Audiard's Oscar nominated 2009 French film "A Prophet". The remake will be directed by Andrew "Rapman" Onwubolu ("Blue Story") from a screenplay by Dennis Lehane ("Mystic River", "Gone Baby Gone").

The story centers around a man, who, after falling under the control of a ruthless mobster (Crowe) while in prison, builds a multiracial crime syndicate, takes down his mentor, and earns a place for his crew alongside the Italian and Russian mafias.

The studio is now looking to cast the leading role. Casting is expected to begin shortly. Neal H. Moritz and Toby Jaffe are producing through Original Film.

The film was originally set up at Sony Pictures, where it was retitled "American Son". It is now a major priority for Paramount.

Crowe can next be seen in the road-rage thriller "Unhinged", which will be the first movie to return to theaters since the pandemic, on July 1st. He also recently appeared in the biographical western "True History of the Kelly Gang", and the Showtime miniseries "The Loudest Voice".
