Despite a very solid debut last week, "Zootopia 2" underperformed and dropped to second place in its sophomore frame as the horror sequel "Five Nights at Freddy's 2" dominated the weekend box office with an impressive debut, although not as impressive as the first film's. Other new releases that made the Top 10 are the anime compilation film "Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution" and Quentin Tarantino's 281-minute cut "Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair".

The horror sequel "Five Nights at Freddy's 2" opened in first place with $64 million from 3,412 theaters. It's a solid debut, for sure, but the first film opened with $80 million in 2023. Also, the sequel cost somewhere between $36-$50 million to produce, while the 2023 film had a musch smaller $20 million budget. Regardless, with another $46.5 million from international markets, which brings its worldwide total to $110.5 million, it's already turning a profit. The dropoff will probably be very steep next week, but it won't matter after such a strong opening. The film received scathing reviews from critics (15% on Rotten Tomatoes), but the audience reception was lukewarm ("B" CinemaScore).
Disney's animated sequel "Zootopia 2" finished its second weekend in second place with $43.4 million, a surprisingly steep 56.7% drop. The film has now grossed $220.7 million domestically, but it's overseas where the film is the most successful, scoring $697 million, so far, mostly thanks to China ($430.4 million). This brings the worldwide cume to $917.9 million, and Disney has just become the first studio this year to cross the $5 billion mark globally.
The musical sequel "Wicked: For Good" stumbled in its third weekend. It finished in third place with $17.3 million, which is a catastrophic 71.9% drop from last week. The film's domestic total is now at $297.5 million, and it looks like it will end its theatrical run well below the first film's $474.9 million tally. Overseas, the sequel raked in $143.3 million, and it will probably end up with much less than its predecessor's $283.7 million international total. So far, "Wicked: For Good" has grossed $440.9 million worldwide against a $150 million budget. Last year's "Wicked" finished its global theatrical run with $758.7 million against an identical production budget.
GKIDS' Japanese anime TV series compilation film "Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution" opened in fourth place with $10 million from 1,833 theaters. Internationally it raked in $30.2 million.
The Top 5 is rounded out by "Now You See Me: Now You Don't" with $3.4 million. The film has grossed $55.3 million in North America, and another $154 million from foreign markets. That's a worldwide total of $209.3 million against a $90 million budget.
"Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair" made its debut in sixth place with $3.4 million from 1,198 theaters. It might not seem impressive, but we are talking about two movies first seen over 20 years ago, re-edited into a single movie with a total runtime of 4 hours and 41 minutes. It was never going to break any box office records. Both the critical and audience reception were stellar (100% on Rotten Tomatoes and "A+" CinemaScore).
In other news, the Hindi action thriller "Dhurandhar" opened in ninth place with $1.9 million from 391 theaters.
