Two major necomwers battled it out for box office supremacy over the weekend. In the end, it was the sequel "Now You See Me: Now You Don't" that came out on top, while Edgar Wright's Stephen King adaptation "The Running Man" ended up in second place. Meanwhile, Osgood Perkins' new horror film "Keeper" starring Tatiana Maslany had a disappointing debut.

"Now You See Me: Now You Don't", the third installment of a franchise that started in 2013, topped the box office charts with $21 million from 3,403 theaters. That's one of Lionsgate's biggest opening weekends of 2025. The threequel's opening weekend is somewhat smaller than the 2013 original which opened with $29.3 million in 2013 and went on to gross $117.7 million domestically and $234 million internationally. The 2016 sequel scored $22.3 million in its debut and only grossed $65 million in North America, but did better overseas with $269.8 million. The 2025 installment also adds $54.2 million from 64 international markets for a worldwide debut of $75.2 million against a production budget estimated at $90 million. The film received mixed reviews from critics (59% on Rotten Tomatoes), and a lukewarm reception from moviegoers ("B+" CinemaScore).
"The Running Man" opened in second place with $16.4 million from 3,534 theaters, and only raked in $11.2 million internationally from 58 countries. That's not great considering the movie cost around $110 million to make. The critical reception was mostly mixed (65% on Rotten Tomatoes), and audiences weren't particularly enthusiastic about it, either ("B+" CinemaScore).
Last week's #1 movie, "Predator: Badlands" landed in third place in its second weekend, grossing $12.7 million, which is a steep 68.2% drop from its franchise-best debut. The film has now grossed $66 million domestically and $70.1 million internationally. That's a worldwide total of $136.2 million against a $105 million production budget. Still a ways to go before it breaks even.
The romantic drama "Regretting You" also dropped from #2 to #4 and raked in $3.7 million, dropping 44.1%. Its domestic total is now at $44.6 million, while overseas it raked in $37.5 million for a worldwide tally of $82.1 million against a $30 million budget.
The Top 5 is rounded out by the hit horror film "Black Phone 2", which grossed $2.6 million over the weekend, down 49% from the previous frame. The domestic tally has reached $74.6 million, with another $53 million from foreign markets bringing its global cume to $127.7 million against a production budget estimated at around $30 million.
Neon's "Keeper" opened in sixth place with a disappointing $2.5 million, much less than director Osgood Perkins' previous films, "Longlegs" ($22.4 million debut) and "The Monkey" ($14 million debut). At least it only cost $6 million to make. The film received a negative reception from both critics (51% on Rotten Tomatoes) and moviegoers ("D+" CinemaScore).
