Two-time Oscar nominee Scarlett Johansson is in negotiations to join the cast of the highly anticipated sequel "The Batman Part II" from Warner Bros and DC Studios. Matt Reeves is back in the director's chair, and Robert Pattinson returns in the lead role. The new installment is expected to begin shooting next spring, and will be released in theaters on October 1, 2027.
The sequel's script was penned by Reeves and co-writer Mattson Tomlin. Zoe Kravitz's Catwoman is not expected to return for the film, according to inside sources with knowledge of the production. Details of Johansson's role have not bee revealed.
"The Batman Part II" was originally announced in April 2022 at CinemaCon, with filming having been scheduled to start in October 2025. Production was later delayed and pushed back until October 2, 2026.
Reeves had this to say about the project: "It's been a long journey, but I am so incredibly excited. I'm really proud of the script me and Mattson did. We put [the script] into a secret pouch that literally has a lock on it with a code. [Robert Pattinson] was in New York at the time, and everything is high security."
Johansson recently joined the cast of "The Exorcist" reboot directed by Mike Flanagan. She made her directorial debut with the drama "Eleanor the Great", which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and was released by Sony Pictures Classics. She is also set to star in James Gray's "Paper Tiger".
