New STAR TREK Movie In The Works From DUNGEONS & DRAGONS Filmmakers Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley

New Star Trek Movie In The Works From Dungeons And Dragons Filmmakers Jonathan Goldstein And John Francis Daley

"Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves" and "Game Night" filmmakers Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley have been hired to write, produce and direct a new "Star Trek" film that is intended to reboot the franchise. The new film will not be a continuation of J.J. Abrams's own reboot of the series, and will not feature Chris Pine or any of the actors from those movies. While plot details are being kept under wraps, it has been reported that the project is not connected to any previous or current television series, movie, or prior movie development projects.

The last film in the series was 2016's "Star Trek Beyond" and there have been many attempts since to bring back the sci-fi franchise into theaters. Chris Hemsworth was briefly attached to reprise the role of Captain Kirk's father from 2009's "Star Trek", Quentin Tarantino almost directed a "Star Trek" movie set in a world of 1930s gangsters, and even Noah Hawley ("Alien: Earth") and Matt Shakman (" The Fantastic Four: First Steps") where at some point attached to direct a new installment.

Other projects that have been sidelined include a "final chapter" starring Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Zoe SaldaƱa, with a first draft of the script written by Steve Yockey ("The Flight Attendant"), and a "Star Trek" origin story that would have been directed by Toby Haynes ("Andor") from a script by Seth Grahame-Smith ("Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter").

Daley and Goldstein have also recently written, directed, and produced the Skydance film "Mayday" starring Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh, which is set to premiere on Apple TV sometime next year.
