The standalone sequel "Twisters" blew the box-office away with a debut that destroyed a decades-old record. The box-office is down 50% compared to the same frame last year, but that was when the "Barbenheimer" juggernaut stormed theaters, so it's a tough comparison to make.

Universal's Twisters" opened with 81.2 million from 4,151 theaters, breaking the record previously set by Roland Emmerich's "The Day After Tomorrow" in 2004 ($68.4 million), and becoming the biggest debut for a disaster movie ever. It's also the third-best opening of 2024. Overseas it's not doing so well, grossing only $43.5 million. The film cost between $155-200 million to produce, which means it needs around $400 million to break even. The worldwide weekend debut is $124.7 million, so it's got a long way to go in order to turn a profit. Critics liked the movie (77% on Rotten Tomatoes), and so did moviegoers ("A-" CinemaScore on par with the original film).
In its third weekend "Despicable Me 4" finished in second place with $24.4 million, down 44% from the previous frame. The film has now grossed $260 million domestically and another $317 million overseas for a global total of $577.1 million.
Disney/Pixar's "Inside Out 2" is holding in third place grossing $12.8 million in its sixth weekend. The film only dropped 35.7% from the previous weekend, and the domestic total has now reached $596.4 million. Overseas it adds $849.2 million for a grand total of $1.44 billion worldwide.

The domestic tally has reached $44.9 million against a $10 million production budget. It also raked in $2.8 million internationally.
The top 5 is rounded out by "A Quiet Place: Day One" with $6.3 million, down 44.2%. The film has grossed $127.8 million in North America and $113.8 million from foreign markets, which adds up to $241.6 million worldwide.
