"Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes" topped the charts with $56.5 million from 4,075 theaters. Initial projections indicated an opening between $50-55 million. This ranks the new installment on par with the last film in the previous trilogy, "War for the Planet of the Apes", which opened with $56.2 million in 2017.

"Dawn" opened with $72.6 million in 2014, and "Rise" scored a $54.8 million opening weekend in 2011. Overseas it adds another $72.5 million for a worldwide debut of $129 million, the third highest global opening of 2024, behind "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" ($194 million) and "Dune: Part Two" ($182.5 million).

The film received a positive reception from critics (81% on Rotten Tomatoes), but a lukewarm reception from moviegoers ("B" CinemaScore).

"The Fall Guy" took a step back to #2 with $13.7 million, down 50.6% from its lackluster opening weekend. The film has now grossed $49.6 million in North America and $54 million overseas, which brings the worldwide total to $103.7 million.

The Zendaya starrer "Challengers" is holding in third place with $4.6 million, a 38.3% decline from the previous week. The film's domestic total has reached $38 million after three weeks in theaters, while overseas it adds another $30.6 million, for a worldwide cume of $68.6 million.

Another holdover is the horror film "Tarot" in fourth place with $3.4 million, down 46.9% from its debut. The film has grossed $12 million domestically and $8.2 million internationally. That's $20.2 million globally against a production budget of $8 million.

The Top 5 is rounded out by "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire", holding steady with $2.5 million. The film dropped 44.4% from the previous frame, and has now grossed a total of $191.8 million domestically, $366.9 million overseas, and $558.7 million worldwide.
