"Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes" topped the charts with $56.5 million from 4,075 theaters. Initial projections indicated an opening between $50-55 million. The film received a positive reception from critics (81% on Rotten Tomatoes), but a lukewarm reception from moviegoers ("B" CinemaScore).

"The Fall Guy" took a step back to #2 with $13.7 million, down 50.6% from its lackluster opening weekend. The film has now grossed $49.6 million in North America and $54 million overseas, which brings the worldwide total to $103.7 million.
