Carla Gugino to Play GONE WITH THE WIND Star Vivien Leigh in Biopic THE FLORIST

"The Fall of the House of Usher" and "Gerald's Game" star Carla Gugino has signed on to star in the biopic "The Florist". Gugino will star as two-time Oscar winner Vivien Leigh ("Gone With the Wind", "A Streetcar Named Desire"), and the film will chronicle the Hollywood screen legend's struggle with bipolar disorder in the 1960s, as she prepares to lead the Broadway production of John Gielgud's Chekhov adaptation of "Ivanov".

Gugino's Leigh meets Joseph Penn, a WWII veteran and blue-collar florist who encounters Leigh on a delivery. At the same time, the star attends a local psychiatric facility for electroconvulsive therapy. According to the synopsis, "Amidst the backdrop of madness, Leigh and Penn become each other's sources of truth, beauty, and love."

The film is directed by "Orange is the New Black" actor Nick Sandow from a script by Jayce Bartok ("The Cake Eaters"), which he put together based on a box of love letters. Production is expected to begin at the end of the summer in Philadelphia.

In a recent interview, Gugino stated the following: "I couldn't be more excited about the opportunity to excavate a woman as complex, contradictory, and compelling as Vivien. From the moment I read the script, I knew ‘The Florist’ was a journey I had to pursue".
