Disney's superhero sequel "The Marvels" is proof that the MCU is no longer the awe-inspiring box-office force it once was. The film scored the Marvel Cinematic Universe's worst opening weekends of all time.

"The Marvels" opened with $47 million from 4,030 theaters. That's well below even 2008's "The Incredible Hulk", which opened with $55.4 million in 2008. It even ranks below DC's "The Flash", which opened in June with $55 million. The film also grossed another $41.5 million from foreign markets, which brings the global total to $110.3 million. In 2019, "Captain Marvel" opened with $455.4 million worldwide. The film receved a mixed reception from both critics (62% on Rotten Tomatoes) and moviegoers ("B" CinemaScore).
In second place, "Five Nights at Freddy's" dropped 53% in its third week and grossed $9 million. The film's domestic tally has reached $127.2 million, while overseas it raked in $124.7 million, which all adds up to $251.9 million worldwide.
"Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour" finished third in its fifth week in theaters with $5.9 million and a steep 56.7% drop. The concert film has grossed $172.5 million in North America, and $68.3 million overseas. That's $240.9 million worldwide.
The A24 biopic "Priscilla" holds in fourth placec with $4.7 million. The film dropped just 4.9% as it expanded into another 1,000 theaters. The film's total now stands at $12.7 million.
Martin Scorsese's "Killers of the Flower Moon" rounds out the Top 5 with $4.6 million, dropping a softer 32% this week. The film has grossed a total of $59.9 million domestically and another $77.2 million overseas.
A susprise in the Top 10 is the faith-based musical "Journey to Bethlehem" which opened with $2.4 million in seventh place. The film was released in 2,002 theaters.
