"Five Nights at Freddy's" opened in first place with $78 million from 3,675 theaters, breaking the record for biggest Halloween weekend of all time, a record previously held by "Puss in Boots" ($34 million in 2011). It's also the best PG-13 horror debut ever, ahead of 2018's "A Quiet Place" ($50.2 million). With another $52.5 million grossed overseas, the film's global total has reached $130.5 million in just three days, surpassing the entire global haul of 2022's "Halloween Ends" ($104 million) and soon enough 2021's "Halloween Kills ($133 million). Not bad for a movie that cost just $20 million to make. The critical reception was mostly negative (26% on Rotten Tomatoes), but it seems moviegoers enjoyed it ("A-" CinemaScore).
"Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour" fell to second place in its third weekend, grossing $14.7 million, which marks a 56% drop. The film has now grossed $149.3 million domestically and $53.7 million overseas, which adds up to $203 million worldwide.
Martin Scorsese's "Killers of the Flower Moon" finished in third place with $9 million, dropping a steep 61% in its second weekend. The film has grossed $40.6 million domestically and $44 million overseas.
In fourth place we have another surprise, the documentary "After Death" from faith-based distributor Angel Studios ("Sound of Freedom"). The film opened with $5 million from 2,645 theaters.
The Top 5 is rounded out by "The Exorcist: Believer" with $3.1 million, down 45% from last week. The film's domestic total has reached $59.3 million, while overseas it adds another $61 million for a total of $120.3 million worldwide.
