The reign of James Cameron's "Avatar: The Way of Water" has come to an end after seven weeks in which the blockbuster dominated the North American box-office. M. Night Shyamalan's new horror film "Knock at the Cabin", and the sports comedy "80 for Brady" opened at the top of the charts.

Shyamalan's "Knock at the Cabin" opened in first place with $14.2 million from 3,643 theaters. While failing to improve on the debuts of the filmmaker's previous films ("Old" - 16.8 million, "The Visit" - $25.4 million), it's still a decent result, especially considering the film only cost $20 million to produce. It also raked in another $7 million from 60 overseas markets. The film received a mixed-to-positive reception from critics (68% Rotten Tomatoes), but audiences were generally disappointed ("C" CinemaScore).
Paramount's "80 for Brady" mades its debut at #2 with $12.5 million from 3,912 theaters. Again, not a massive opening, but once again, the film's budget is a modest $28 million. With the Super Bowl coming next week, and Tom Brady announcing his retirement earlier this week, the film could show some strong legs next week. The film received mixed reviews from critics (64% Rotten Tomatoes) but a positive reception from moviegoers ("A-" CinemaSCore).
"Avatar: The Way of Water dropped to third place with $10.8 million. That's a soft 32% decline from the previous frame, which means the movie is still enjoying a healthy run at the box-office. The film has now grossed $636.6 million domestically, ranking as the 10th highest grossing domestic release of all time, and the second of 2022. Overseas it has earned $1.53 billion, and with a global total of $2.17 billion, it is now the fourth biggest release of all time, behind only "Titanic" ($2.19 bilion), "Avengers Endgame" ($2.79 billion) and "Avatar" ($2.92 billion).
"Puss in Boots: The Last Wish" finished in fourth place with $7.9 million, down 24.3% from last week. The film has now grossed a total of $151.2 million domestically and another $217.3 million internationally, adding up to a worldwide total of $368.5 million.
The Top 5 is rounded out by the newly released concert movie "BTS: Yet to Come in Cinemas" with $6.2 million from 1,114 theaters. The film showcases BTS' massive free show at Busan's World Expo in October.
In other news, Fathom Events' faith-based release "The Chosen Season 3 Finale" opened in ninth place with $3.6 million.
