"The Super Mario Bros Movie" effortlessly dominated the weekend box-office for a fourth consecutive week, breaking records and crossing the $1 billion mark. New arrivals "Are You There God ? It's Me Margaret" and "Big George Foreman" failed to impress.

"The Super Mario Bros. Movie" is still the #1 movie at the box-office. The film has delivered $40 million in its fourth weekend, declining only 33%, and breaking the record for best fourth weekend ever for an animated movie, which was previously held by "The Incredibles 2" ($28.4 million). The video game adaptation will also cross the $1 billion mark worldwide through Sunday. With $490 million domestically, so far, "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" is currently the highest-grossing movie of 2023. Overseas, it raked in a total of $532.4 million.
"Evil Dead Rise" is holding in second place with $12.2 million in its sophomore frame, dropping 50%. The film has now grossed a total of $44.4 million domestically and $42.1 million internationally.
The coming-of-age comedy "Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret." opened in third place with $6.8 million from 3,343 theaters. The film only cost $30 million to produce. The critical reception has been almost universally positive (99% on Rotten Tomatoes), and moviegoers mostly enjoyed it ("A-" CinemaSCore).
"John Wick: Chapter 4" finished its sixth weekend in fourth place with $5 million, declining a very comfortable 14% from the previous week. The film's domestic total has reached $176.1 million, while overseas it has grossed a total of $226 million.
The Top 5 is rounded out by Disney's 40th anniversary re-release of "Star Wars: Return of the Jedi", which earned $4.6 million from only 475 theaters.
In other news, Lionsgate's R-rated WWII action thriller "Sisu" opened in eighth place with $3.2 million from 1,006 theaters, while Sony's faith-based boxing biopic "Big George Foreman" made its debut in ninth place with $3 million from 3,054 theaters.
