Paramount released the horror film "Smile" in theaters this week and it ended up beating projections and dominating the weekend box-office. However, Universal's romantic comedy "Bros" failed to make much of an impression.

The horror film "Smile" opened with $22 million, beating initial projections of a $19 million debut, from 3,645 theaters. The film also raked in another $14.5 million overseas from 58 countries. The film received positive reviews from critics (75% on Rotten Tomatoes), and a lukewarm reception from moviegoers ("B-" CinemaScore).
Last week's #1 movie "Don't Worry Darling", droped to second place with $7.3 million, a steep 62% decline. Overseas, the film grossed $21.9 million from 63 markets.
"The Woman King" finished in third place with $7 million, dropping 36% in its third weekend. The film's domestic total has reached $46.7 million, while overseas its cume is now at $3.9 million from 13 markets.
The rom-com "Bros", which was marketed as the first major-studio theatrical gay romantic comedy, opened with only $4.8 million from 3,350 theaters, below pre-release projections of a debut in the range of $7-9 million. The film's critical reception was positive (91% on Rotten Tomatoes), and audiences enjoyed it ("A" from CinemaScore).
The Top 5 is rounded out by the re-release of James Cameron's "Avatar", which grossed $4.6 million in its second weekend, dropping 55%. The re-release has grossed a total of $18.5 million domestically, and another $39.5 million internationally, adding up to a total of $58.1 million worldwide.
In other news, the Brad Pitt starrer "Bullet Train" finally croseed $100 million this weekend. The film finished in eight place with $2.4 million after a slight increase in screen count. Also, the Indian Tamil-language action drama "PS-1 (Ponniyin Selvan: Part One)" opened in sixth place with $4.1 million.
