The horror film "Barbarian" and the Indian Hindi-language action-adventure "Brahmastra Part One: Shiva" prevailed at the box-office during the lowest domestic weekend since January. Both movies came in slightly higher than anticipated.

The 20th Century Studios and New Regency horror film "Barbarian" opened in first place with $10 million from 2,340 theaters. Overseas it raked in $0.5 million from only seven markets. The film received a very positive reception from critics (92% on Rotten Tomatoes), but moviegoers didn't seem to enjoy it ("C+" CinemaScore).
"Brahmastra Part One: Shiva" opened in second place with $4.4 million from 810 theaters, the fourth highest North American debut for a Bollywood title. Overseas, the film opened in India with $18.9 million, which is the eighth opening weekend of all time and the second debut for an Indian film. The film received mixed reviews from critics (63% on Rotten Tomatoes).
"Bullet Train" finished in third place with $3.2 million (-43.8%) in its sixth week, bringing its domestic total to $92.5 million. Overseas it raked in a total of $119.3 million, which adds up to a worldwide total of $211.8 million.
After climbing back to #1 during last week's Labor Day frame, "Top Gun: Maverick" dropped to fourth place with $3.1 million (-47%). After 16 weeks in theaters, the film has grossed a total of $705.6 million domestically, $747.8 million overseas, and $1.4 billion worldwide.
The Top 5 is rounded out by the animated film "DC League of Super-Pets" with $2.8 million (-43.7%). The film's domestic tally has reached $85.4 million after 7 weeks, while overseas it raked in $82.6 million.
