Keanu Reeves and director Francis Lawrence are set to reunite for a sequel to their 2005 comic book adaptation "Constantine", which has been recently greenlit by Warner Bros. The screenplay will be written by Akiva Goldsman, who was a producer on the original film.
Reeves will reprise the role of cinical exorcist and demonologist John Constantine, the protagonist of the "Hellblazer" comic book by Jamie Delano and Garth Ennis.
Lorenzo DiBonaventura and Erwin Stoff will executive produce the new film, while Goldsman will produce alongside J.J. Abrams and Hannah Minghella. Abrams was in the process of developing a Hellblazer TV show for HBO Max, but it has been announced that the project was cancelled.
The original "Constantine" also starred Rachel Weisz, Djimon Hounsou, Shia LaBeouf and Tilda Swinton. It grossed $230 milion worldwide against a modest $85 million budget.
Francis Lawrence made his directorial debut on the 2005 film, and went on to direct "I Am Legend", and three "Hunger Games" sequels. He is currently filming the "Hunger Games" prequel "A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes".
Reeves can next be seen in "John Wick: Chapter 4", and is set to star in the Hulu series "Devil in the White City".
