Weekend Box-Office: F9 Wins The July 4th Holiday Weekend and Destroys GODZILLA VS KONG Record

"F9" outraced the competition for a second consecutive weekend and dominated the extended Fourth of July weekend. New arrivals include the "The Boss Baby" sequel and the latest installment in the "Purge" series. With these two new films, Universal dominates the holiday weekend. Even so, the total box-office declined from last weekend. Also, for the first time since the pandemic started in 2020, all Top Ten films grossed over $1 million.

The ninth "Fast & Furious" flick held at #1 with $24 million over the weekend, and $32.7 million for the extended holiday frame. That's 65% less than its opening weekend, which is pretty steep, but not too low compared to other installments in the franchise.

The film's domestic total has now reached $125.9 million after 12 days in theaters, while overseas it raked in a total of $374.4 million. With $500.3 million worldwide it is now the highest-grossing Hollywood movie since the start of the pandemic, a title previously held by "Godzilla Vs. Kong".

In second place we have the first new release, the animated sequel "The Boss Baby: Family Business", which opened with $17.3 million in the first three days and around $23 million after Monday. It's a far cry from the first film's $50 million debut in 2017, and with only $1.5 million overseas, its worldwide tally is at an unimpressive $24.5 million.

The other new release, also from Universal, is "The Forever Purge", the latest installment in the Blumhouse franchise, which scored $12.8 million for the 3-day, and $15.9 million for the four-day time frame. The previous Purge movie opened with $17.4 million in 2018, and considering that these films don't cost much to produce (around $18 million in this case), it's officially yet another profitable Blumhouse project.
