Weekend Box-Office: A QUIET PLACE PART II Destroys Pandemic Record and Disney's CRUELLA

In what was the best pandemic weekend at the box-office, John Krasinski's horror sequel "A Quiet Place Part II" scored a record-breaking debut over the Memorial Day Weekend, while Disney's hugely budgeted live-action origin story extravaganza Cruella" failed to impress.

Read more about the weekend box-office after the jump.

"A Quiet Place Part II" finally opened in theaters after being delayed for a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and it looks like the wait was worth it as the film grossed $48.5 million from 3,726 venues for the three-day weekend, and is expected to rake in a total of $58.5 million over the extended holiday time frame.

This is the the biggest three-day haul of the pandemic era, beating out Warner Bros' "Godzilla vs. Kong" ($32 million). The film cost an estimated $61 million to produce, a much heftier sum than the $17 million budget of the first film, which might be why the studio decided to wait for theaters to reopen significantly before releasing the film.

After 45 days in theaters, "A Quiet Place Part II" will become available on Paramount Plus, the streaming service owned by its parent company ViacomCBS.

The other new wide release, Disney's "Cruella" starring Emma Stone only managed a mediocre debut with $21.3 million from 3,892 theaters for the three-day and $26.5 million over the four-day weekend. That's not exactly spectacular considering its outragous $200 million budget. The film was also released simultaneously via Disney Plus for an additional $30 fee.
