"Insecure" star Issa Rae has joined the voice cast of Sony Pictures Animations' "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" sequel. The actress is the first new addition to the cast that includes Shameik Moore and Hailee Steinfeld as Miles Morales aka Spider-Man, and Spider-Gwen.
The sequel's plot is a big secret at this moment, but it has been reported that Rae will voice Jessica Drew aka Spider-Woman.
Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers and Justin K. Thompson will direct from a script written by Phil Lord, Christopher Miller and David Callaham ("Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings").
Lord and Miller will also produce alongside Amy Pascal, Avi Arad, Alonzo Ruvalcaba and Christina Steinberg. The first film's helmer Peter Ramsey will return as an executive producer.
The film will be released on October 7, 2022.
Rae is currently filming the fifth and final season of "Insecure", and she can also be seen in the second season of Robin Thede's "A Black Lady Sketch Show", which she is also executive producing.
