It looks like another good week at the box-office as the weekend's new release "The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It" managed to overtake last week's #1 film "A Quiet Place Part II". And while the two horror films battled for the top spot, Disney's "Cruella" held on fairly well in its second weekend. DreamWorks Animation's "Spirit Untamed" also opened over the weekend, but failed to make much of an impression.

Warner Bros' third film in the main "The Conjuring" series starring Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson (and eighth installment overall) opened in first place with $24 million from 3,102 theaters. This makes it the largest R-rated pandemic debut, and the third-largest overall behind "A Quiet Place Part II" and "Godzilla Vs Kong".
This is the 5th Warner Bros release to debut in first place this year, and the studio has spent ten weeks out of twenty-three in the top position during 2021. It's also impressive considering that their films have also been available on HBO Max at the same time for no additional fee. Overseas, "Conjuring" added another $33.1 million, bringing its global cume to $57.1 million.
"A Quiet Place Part II" finished in second place with $19.5 million, dropping 59% from its record-breaking debut. The film also raked in around $50 million internationally, and its worldwide tally has reached $138.6 million.
"Cruella" slipped to third place with $11.2 million after dropping 47.7% compared to its opening weekend. With another $43.4 million grossed overseas, the film has now grossed $87.1 million worldwide.
In fourth place we find the other new release, the animated film "Spirit Untamed" based on the Netflix series "Spirit Rides Free", which in turn was a spin-off of the 2002 animated feature "Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron". The animated adventure grossed $6.2 million from 3,211 theaters, and $1 million overseas.
Meanwhile, "F9", the latest installment in the "Fast & Furious" franchise is gearing up for its June 25 North American release, already grossing $256 million internationally.
