GAME OF THRONES Spinoff HOUSE OF THE DRAGON Adds Olivia Cooke, Matt Smith and Emma D’Arcy

Game Of Thrones Spinoff House Of Dragons Olivia Cooke Matt Smith Emma Darcy

Olivia Cooke, Matt Smith and Emma D'Arcy have joined the cast of HBO's upcoming fantasy series "House of the Dragon". The "Game of Thrones" spinoff is based on George R.R. Martin's "Fire & Blood". It is co-created by Martin and "Colony" co-creator Ryan Condal.

The prequel series is set 300 years before the events of the original show, and it tells the story of House Targaryen.

Cooke will star as Alicent Hightower, the daughter of Otto Hightower, the Hand of the King, and the most comely woman in the Seven Kingdoms. Raised in the Red Keep, close to the king and his innermost circle, she possesses both a courtly grace and a keen political acumen.

D'Arcy joins the cast as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, the king's first-born child, who is of pure Valyrian blood, and a dragonrider.

Smith will play Prince Daemon Targaryen, younger brother to King Viserys and heir to the throne. Daemon is a peerless warrior and a dragonrider, who possesses the true blood of the dragon.

The cast also includes Paddy Considine as King Viserys Targaryen, chosen by the lords of Westeros to succeed the Old King, Jaehaerys Targaryen, at the Great Council at Harrenhal. He is a warm, kind, and decent man, who only wishes to carry forward his grandfather's legacy.

Veteran "Game of Thrones" helmer Miguel Sapochnik ("The Long Night", "Battle of the Bastards") and Condal will serve as co-showrunners, and executive-produce alongside Martin, Vince Gerardis and Sara Lee Hess. Sapochnik is set to direct the pilot and additional episodes.
