The reboot will be written and directed by Macon Blair ("I Don't Feel at Home in This World Anymore"). Troma founders Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz will serve as producers
The project has been described as subverting the superhero genre in a way similar to 2016's "Deadpool". The story follows Melvin (Dinklage), a mild-mannered man who becomes disfigured when he is pushed into a vat of toxic waste, and goes on to fight bad guys under the superhero name Toxie.
The original film became a cult classic. It was followed by three sequels, and was adapted into a stage musical, a children's cartoon series and a Marvel comic.
Dinklage is currently filming Joe Wright's "Cyrano".
