"Star Wars" alum Daisy Ridley is set to star in the biopic "Young WOman and the Sea" for Disney. The film will be directed by Joachim Ronning ("Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales") from a script by Jeff Nathanson based on the book by Glenn Stout.

The film will chronicle the daring journey of Gertrude "Trudy" Ederle, the first woman to ever make the 21-mile swim across the English Channel in 1926, two years after winning gold at the 1924 Paris Olympics.

Jerry Bruckheimer and Chad Oman are producing. Bruckheimer and Nathanson have been trying to get this one off the ground for years. Lily James was at one point considered for the lead role. The project has been in developement for years at Paramount, until it was finally put in turnaround, allowing Bruckheimer to bring it to Disney, who is hoping to release the film via Disney+.

Ridley can next be seen in the sci-fi adventure film "Chaos Walking" opposite Tom Holland. She is also set to star in the fantasy thriller "Kolma", the historical drama "Women in the Castle" alongside Kristin Scott Thomas, and the biopic "A Woman of No Importance".
