"Star Wars" sequel trilogy star Oscar Isaac is set to play the lead character Solid Snake in Sony's video game adaptation "Metal Gear Solid". The film will be directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts ("Kong: Skull Island") from a script penned by Derek Connolly ("Jurassic World"). Avi Arad is producing. Peter Kang is the executive overseeing for the studio.
Created by Hideo Kojima, the 33-year-old video game series was created in 1987. The main series features eleven games.
Its first installment was Konami's "Metal Gear" for MSX home computers, in which the protagonist, Solid Snake, a Special Forces operative, is tasked with infiltrating a nuclear weapons facility and neutralizing the titular superweapon.
"Metal Gear Solid" was the third game in the series and was released in 1998 for PlayStation.
Isaac is also set to star in Marvel's upcoming Disney+ series "Moon Knight", and the comic book adaptation "The Great Machine". He will also play Francis Ford Coppola in Barry Levinson's "Francis and the Godfather", a biopic about the making of "The Godfather".
He is also starring in HBO's "Scenes From a Marriage" opposite Jessica Chastain, and can also be seen in "Dune", which will be released in December 2021, and in Paul Schrader's "The Card Counter".
