Sylvester Stallone Joins SUICIDE SQUAD Sequel

Sylvester Stallone joins THE SUICIDE SQUAD sequel
Sylvester Stallone has joined the cast of the "Suicide Squad" sequel. The casting was announced by writer/director James Gunn on Instagram.

Stallone himself confirmed his participation by posting a video to Instagram acknowledging he was on his way to go film a scene. Stallone previously worked with Gunn on "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2", in which he played Stakar Ogord, who turns into the hero Starhawk.

The cast features Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Idris Elba as Bloodsport, John Cena as Peacemaker, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg, Peter Capaldi, Nathan Fillion as T.D.K. and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller. Gunn also penned the script, and used the '80s Suicide Squad comics as inspiration.

Gunn also has a Suicide Squad spinoff series in the works. Titled "Peacemaker", the show centers on Cena's character, and it's currently in development at HBO Max. Danielle Brooks, Chris Conrad, Jennifer Holland and Robert Patrick have already been cast. Gunn is writing the series, and will also direct several episodes, including the pilot.

"The Suicide Squad" will open in theaters on August 6, 2021.
