Chris Pine ("Star Trek", "Wonder Woman") is in talks to star in the film adaptation of "Dungeons & Dragons" based on Hasbro's popular role-playing game franchise from Wizards of the Coast. The game has been played by over 40 million since launching 46 years ago.
The Hasbro/eOne and Paramount co-production will be written and directed by "Game Night" helmers John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein. The script's first draft was penned by Michael Gilio. Goldstein and Daley are also known for writing the screenplay for "Spider-Man: Homecoming".
Plot details are being kept under wraps for now. The film will be produced by Jeremy Latcham and Brian Goldner. The game was previously adapted by New Line in 2000. That film starred Jeremy Irons.
In recent years, the property has been at the center of a legal battle over its film rights. After a 2015 settlement, Warner Bros. wanted to make a film adaptation that would have starred Ansel Elgort. However, the rights eventually went to Paramount, which has a production and distribution deal with Hasbro.
Filming is expected to begin in the first quarter of next year in Belfast.
Pine can next be seen in "Wonder Woman 1984" opposite Gal Gadot, and is currently filming New Line's "Don't Worry Darling" directed by Olivia Wilde.
